The Sierra del Torcal is a small mountain range separating Antequera and Málaga, with four geological sections: Sierra Pelada, Torcal Alto, Torcal Bajo, and Tajos and Laderas. Later fractures and faults at right angles were exploited by erosion, producing alleys between large blocks. The blocks themselves were shaped by water dissolution (karstification) and freeze-thaw splitting, resulting in forms named after objects like the Sphinx, Jug, Camel, and Screw.
